The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness is a book jot down by Stephen R. Covey, published in 2004. It is the sequel to The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, first published in 1989. Further it is an insightful and inspiring book written by Stephen R. Covey. The book takes a look beyond the seven habits that Covey previously introduced and helps readers understand the concept of leadership and how one can achieve greatness in their personal and professional life.
“Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs." Voice is Covey's code for "unique personal significance." Those who inspire others to find theirs are the leaders needed now and for the future, according to Covey. The central idea of the book is the need for steady recovery and application of the whole person paradigm, which holds that persons have four intelligences - physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual. Denial of any of them reduces individuals to things, inviting many problems. The industrial age is assumed to have been a period dependent on such denial. Habits are decisive factors in our lives. They consist of unconscious patterns.
We must not cease explorations, and at the end of all, our exploring will arrive where we began and know the place for the first time. ”The book is divided into three parts: Find Your Voice, Inspire Others to Find Theirs, and Empower Others to Flourish. Throughout the book, Covey emphasizes the importance of finding one's unique voice and purpose. Covey argues that to achieve greatness, individuals must identify and live their values, express their talents, and pursue their passions. He believes that by doing so, individuals will become leaders who inspire and empower others to do the same. One of the strengths of the book is the practical guidance Covey provides for readers. He provides tips on how to effectively communicate, build relationships, and lead others while staying true to one's values.
On the other hand, Stephen also reveals that the primary greatness focus on the strength of one’s success. If there is no deep integrity and fundamental characters strength, the challenges of life will cause true motives to the surface. Other human relationships failure replace short-term success. Quadrant 2 is the primary focus of successful personal management, positive energy, and growth. He stresses the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions and making a positive impact on the world.
Overall, The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness is an inspiring book that offers valuable insights into personal and professional development. Covey's writing is clear and concise, and he provides numerous examples to illustrate his points. This book is highly recommended for anyone looking to take their leadership skills to the next level and achieve greatness in their life.
